What is the MATS Program
Wadoka Academy’s Martial Arts and Tutoring Studies (MATS) Program is unique among other martial art schools because, in addition to the benefits of karate training, it offers students the option of taking an equally resourceful complimentary activity of one-on-one online tutoring.
The MATS Program primarily focuses on utilizing karate as an educational tool to train its students in developing integral life skills at an early age, such as:
- Discipline
- Self-Regulation
- Etiquette
- Physical and Mental Wellness
When students are allowed to cultivate these skills through our specialized training program, Wadoka Academy believes that they should be able to achieve success in all forms and in all settings, whether they are inside or outside of the classroom, or whether they are doing online or in-person activities.
Training JK – Grade 5 students to achieve SUCCESS
The MATS Program has had a stellar reputation in many Toronto communities over a period of 30 years for these key reasons:
AccessIBILITY FOR All STUDENTS
The price for the MATS Program has been set to encourage continued access for those students, their parents, their schools and communities who need the service. Families in economic need that meet certain criteria may be eligible to receive funding to participate in our program.
Parent-DriveN
If taking tutoring sessions, parents are primarily consulted when formulating the most effective tutoring plan to address their child’s specific academic needs. We also offer parents the opportunity to train alongside their children in our special Community Karate classes on Saturdays.
FULL VISIBILITY
The program permits parents to occupy a ‘front row’ (observational) position in both the karate and tutoring classes. However, parents are not permitted to record or take pictures of the classes unless given explicit permission by the staff.
CEPE-FORMAT
Each student is assessed under the Community Education Performance Evaluation (CEPE) Format, which is created from the combined input of the teacher, student, and parent. This community-centric approach to our training nurtures a higher cooperative learning environment for each student.
